Review: Johnnie Walker 12

Johnnie Walker 12
Price: $25-$35
Strength: 40 %

I was expecting more from the Black Label.  I was under the impression that there would be a strong Talisker and/or Islay influence in this blend.  Instead, the peat influence is negligible.  Johnnie 12 seems to have more Speyside character to it and is fairly malty.  There is a musty character to the drink as well, which I suspect owes to some island malts.

Johnnie 12 is one of the best selling whiskies in the world and a staple of every bar.  But to my tongue it is rather bland (though smooth), with all of the ingredient whiskies destructively interfering with each other instead of complementing each other.  77 points (C+).
