Review: The Famous Grouse

The Famous Grouse
Price: $20-$25
Strength: 40 %
The Famous Grouse is a top-selling blend, and its ambassadors boast of it having large components of both The Macallan and Highland Park.  The nose reveals the Macallan influence with apricot and other dried fruits.  I was expecting a cheap blend to be much more bland but was pleasantly surprised at both the drinkability and light sweet fruit flavors.  However, it all falls apart in the finish, which is short, rough, and generally awful.  I also found that the medicinal apricot flavor did not wear well as I worked through the bottle, and the result is that while Famous Grouse was better than I expected, even at a bargain price it is likely a one-and-done.  73 points (C-)
