Review: Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength

Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength
Price: $65-$75
Strength: 56.3 %

Laphroaig 10 CS is the epitome of Laphroaig, so you'll either love it or hate it: wet rotting logs, iodine and peat, burnt apple pie, Scottish breakfast tea, bicycle tires.  A peat monster, but less peat than Laphroaig Quarter Cask.  A bit hot too, so add some water.  Rich flavor with big winter spices; a great dram for a snowy day.  93 points (A-).

  1. I'm confused by the sheer volume of offerings coming out these days...Laphroaig Cask Strength, Quarter Cask, 10, 12...though I guess more cask strength offerings is always a good thing.

I've like the Quarter Cask immensely the few times I've had it, though it's a one dram and done proposition for me...I just can't do that much smoke in one sitting!

  2. It's not like there's a huge difference in style among these offerings either, though I did read that they are releasing Triple Wood to the U.S., which is Quarter Cask finished in sherry. That sounds interesting.
